Palak Dal

Palak Dal is a healthy and green version of popular authentic Dal Tadka. It can be served in lunch or dinner with your choice of rice or Roti.
Palak Dal

 YIELD – 2 servings


Spinach/Palak - 1 cup (finely chopped)
Yellow Moong Dal - 1 cup
Tomato - 1 big (finely chopped)
Onion - 1 medium (finely chopped)
ginger garlic paste - 1 tsp
Turmeric Powder - 1 tsp
Chili Powder - 1 tsp
Garam Masala Powder - 1/2 tsp
Cumin - 1/2 tsp
Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
Hing - a pinch
Butter- 1 tsp
Oil - 1 tsp
Salt as per taste
Lemon juice as per taste


  1. Wash and soak moong dal in 2 cup of water for 20 mins.
  2. Heat the oil in pressure cooker and add cumin and mustard seeds with hing.
  3. Add onion and ginger garlic paste. Saute until onion get translucent.
  4. Add tomato and spinach. Add turmeric powder, chilli powder, salt and garam masala.
  5. Now add moong dal and add one more cup of water into it. (amount of water can be varied depend on the dal consistency you need)
  6. Close the cooker with lid and cook it for 3-4 whistles.
  7. Let the pressure cooker get cool down until all the steam come out properly.
  8. Take out the dal in serving bowl and top it up with lemon juice and butter.
  9. Serve hot with your choice of rice or roti.
