Puffed Rice Upma

 Have you ever tried making upma with puffed rice?? if not try this quick version of umpa, when you really don't feel hungry but want to eat some food to relish your tastes. This can help you to cook in a jiffy when guest arrives home without prior information and delight them.

Puffed Rice Upma

YIELD –2 Servings


Puffed Rice- 2 cups
Onion- 1 medium chopped
Carrot- 1/3 cup Grated
Green Chilii-3 slit length wise
Lemon Juice- 1 tbsp
Tumeric Powder- 1/4 tsp
Curry Leaves- 1 tbsp chopped
Coriander Leaves- 1 tbsp chopped
Ginger-1 tsp chopped
Salt To Taste
Oil- 1 tbsp

For Seasoning:
Hing-1/2 tsp
Mustard Seeds-1 tsp
Cumin Seeds- 1 tsp
Split Urad Dhal-1 tsp
Chenna Dhal- 1 tsp
Cashew nuts-4 chopped


  1. Wash and soak puffed in water for 5minutes and squeeze it.
  2. Heat oil in a wok, add seasoning and saute till fragrant.
  3. Add onion, ginger, green chilli, grated carrot and curry leaves.
  4. Stir for a minute, add turmeric powder,salt and puffed rice.
  5. Combine well to mix all the ingredients and cook covered on slow flame for 5 minutes.
  6. Squeeze a tbsp of lemon juice, garnish coriander leaves and serve hot. 


Adjust veggies to your choice and flavor.
