Instant Sambhar Powder

This spicy sambhar powder will help you greatly while making many Indian dishes. This versatile powder serves best for making sambhar, curry/gravy and for rice bath. The only thing you need to do is prepare and store it in a container for multiple use.

Instant Sambhar Powder

YIELD – 50grams


Chenna Dhal- 2 tbsp
Thoor Dhal- 2 tbsp
Urad Dhal-2  tbsp
Coriander Seeds-3 tbsp
Pepper Corns- 1 tsp
Cumin Seeds-1 tsp
Mustard Seeds-1 tsp
Dried Red Chilli-10
Fenugreek Seeds- 1/2 tsp
Turmeric Powder-1/2 tsp
Curry Leaves- 6 dried and crushed
Sesame Seeds-1 tbsp
Hing-1 tsp
Gingelly oil-1/2 tsp


  1. Heat oil in a fry pan, add all the dhals and roast till golden brown and tranfer to the plate. Saute constantly and watch that you do not burn the dhal.
  2. In the same fry pan roast all the remaining ingredients and cool it.
  3. In a mixer first powder dhal  coarsely and add all the other ingredients to it , grind till smooth powder.
  4. Spread the powder in a flat tray or in the kitchen tissue, let it cool for few minutes and transfer to a air tight container this will last for months.
  5. Refrigerate for freshness and use this powder while making sambhar,  bisibelebath, Kolambu and curry recipes.


Roast all the ingredients  till aromatic and watch carefully that are not burnt.
