Poha Upma

Poha Upma

 YIELD – 2 servings


Poha(Rice Flakes) - 2 cups
Onion - 1 small finely chopped
Potato - 1 medium size finely chopped
Frozen mixed vegetables - 1/4 cup (Green peas, carrot, corn)
Green/Rec chilli - 1 medium chopped
Peanuts - 1 tbsp
Curry leaves - few leaves
Coriander - 1 -2 tbsp finely chopped
Oil - 1 tbsp
Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
hing - a pinch
turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
Salt as per taste
Chili Powder - 1/2 tsp
Sugar - 1/2 tsp (Optional)
Lemon juice - 1 tsp
Poha Upma


  1. Wash the poha in a running water and drain out all the water. Keep aside. Make sure to drain water completely and use thick poha else poha will become extreme soft and upma will become khichdi.
  2. Heat the oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves and hing into it.
  3. Once seeds stop fluttering add onion and saute until golden brown. add peanuts and cashew as well.
  4. Now add potato, mix veggies and chilli. Cook them until vegetables are soft and tender.
  5. Add turmeric powder, chili powder, salt, sugar and lemon juice in it. mix well.
  6. Finally add poha and mix well. cook for 3-5 minutes.
  7. Garnish with coriander and spicy sev.
  8. Serve hot.
