Sprout Mung Dal

Sprouts are called as "Power Food" as it is very good source of protein also contain useful amounts of fibre, potassium, and B-vitamins. They contain low levels of fat, cholesterol and sodium. It is useful for those of us who want to increase their alertness and mental abilities. Phosphorous is also necessary for healthy bones and teeth. Make this healthy Sprout Mung Dal for your family to complete their diet with lots of nutrition.
Sprout Mung Dal

YIELD –3 persons


Whole Green Mung - 1 cup
Onion - 1 big finely chopped
Tomato - 1 big finely chopped
Green chili(less spicy) - 1 big finely chopped
Ginger Garlic Paste - 1 tsp
Oil - 1 tbsp
Mustard Seeds - 1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
Hing - a pinch
Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tsp
Coriander Powder - 1 tsp
Chili Powder - 1 tsp
Salt as per taste
Lemon Juice - 1 tbsp
Coriander for garnishing


  1. Soak the whole mung for over night. Wash and remove excess water next day and leave it without water for 2 more hours.
  2. Heat the oil in a pressure cooker; add mustard cumin and hing.
  3. Add onion, tomato, ginger garlic paste and chillies and saute well.
  4. Add all the spices powder along with salt. Saute again for a minute.
  5. Now add sprouted mung and add 3 cups of water in it. mix well.
  6. Close the lid of pressure cooker and cook it for 5 whistles.
  7. Let it cool down for 10 minutes. Just before serving add lemon juice and mix well.
  8. Garnish with coriander and serve hot with rice and stuffed parathas.
