Lemon Rasam

A Tangy rasam made with citrus fruit and is a replacement from traditional tomato rasam. This rasam can be enjoyed with hot cooked rice by munching appam as a side. Omg truely its mother watering for me while writing and wat about You? don't you feel to taste it!! then try this very light, tangy spiced broth made with lemony flavor south Indian recipe.Moong dhal is cooked and mixed with freshly ground spice paste with lemon flavor. It can be had just like soup and healthy homemade recipe perfect for weekend lunch menu.

Lemon Rasam

YIELD – 2 servings


Moong Dhal  / Thoor Dhal-1/4 cup( Use any lentil of your choice)
Ginger - 2" piece
Garlic-2 cloves
Green Chilli- 2-3
Turmeric Powder -1/2 tsp
Lemon - 2 medium size( Squeeze Juice)
Water as required
Fresh grated coconut- 1tbsp for Garnish

For Seasoning:
Mustard Seeds-1tsp
Cumin Seeds-1tsp
Broken Red Chilli-4no.
Curry leaves-5 Spring
Ghee/Oil- 1 tbsp

Lemon  Rasam


  1. Pressure cook moong dhal with turmeric and oil for 1-2 whistle. Alternatively bring water to boil add dhal and cook till soft. Cool and mash well.
  2. Heat oil in fry pan add ginger, garlic, green chilli and saute till aromatic. Cool and blend to coarse paste using mixer.
  3. Now combine dhal, ground paste, salt and dhal cooked water in a sauce pan and let it boil once. Add curry leaves and switch off the flame.
  4. Now prepare seasoning with mentioned ingredients. Pour over the rasam.
  5. Pour in the lemon juice and garnish with grated coconut.
  6. Serve with hot steamed rice, dollop of ghee with Appam.  Enjoy the heavenly taste!!!
Lemon  Rasam


Adjust lemon juice accordingly as per your taste.
This rasam can also be prepared without dhal/Lentil.
