Kondaikadalai Sundal / Chickpeas Sundal

 Today we would like to present you one of the favourites of Lord Vinayagar, Chickpeas Sundal. This is an energy packed, Power packed and protein Packed Sundal which is also easy to make and offered as a Neivedhiyam for Vinayagar on his Birthday. Prepare this sundal as a evening snacks to have after school.




Chickpeas - 1/2 cup
Salt - as per taste
Coconut grated - 2 tbsp

For Seasoning:
Oil - 1 tsp.
Mustard seeds - 1/4 tsp.
Black gram dhal - 1/2 tsp.
Curry leaves - 2 springs
Hing - 1/4 tsp.
Dried whole chilli - 2-3
Shallots- few (optional)


  1. Clean and soak chickpeas overnight.
  2. Discard the soaked water and cook chickpeas with water to its level in a pressure cooker by simmering for 3 minutes after first whistle.
  3. Once the pressure releases open cooker and discard the cooked water.
  4. Add salt and toss it well let the chickpeas absorb the salt.
  5. Heat oil in a pan.
  6. Season the oil with the seasoning ingredients.
  7. Add the grated coconut and cooked chickpeas and cook until everything is combined well.
  8. The sundal is ready to serve.


Do not overcook the chickpeas else it will become soggy.
If you forgot to soak the chickpeas before cooking, add a little baking soda while cooking and cook for a little long time. 
If you wish can include shallots apart from festival preparation.
