Vattha Kuzhambu / Dried Veggies Curry

Vattha Kuzhambu is a traditional treat in many south Indian homes. This authentic curry is a must in any south Indian Platter. Vattha Kuzhambu with Sutta appalam is a Heavenly combination which just melts inside our Mouth. Making of this Vatral Kuzhambu is also so easy. Its such a soft dish and pleasing dish for the stomach. Let me tell you the preparation for this easy to make dish.

Vattha Kuzhambu / Dried Veggies Curry



Sundakkai Vatral / Turkey Berry - 1 handful
Tamarind - 1 gooseberry size.
Sambar powder - 3 tsp.
Turmeric powder- 1/2 tsp
Rice flour - 1 tsp.
Hing - 1/2 tsp.
Oil - 2 tbsp.

For seasoning:
Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp.
Thoor dhall - 1 tsp.
Urad dhal - 1/2 tsp.
Fenugreek seeds - 1/2 tsp.
Dried red chillies - 2
Curry leaves - 1 spring


  1. Soak the tamarind in 1 cup of water and extract the pulp from it.
  2. Dissolve the rice flour in 2 tbsps of water.
  3. Heat oil in a pan and season it with the seasoning ingredients.
  4. Add hing to it.
  5. Add the dried sundakkai to it and fry until it is roasted.
  6. Add the tamarind extract with the necessary water and let it boil.
  7. Add Sambar powder, salt,Turmeric powder, rice powder and let it thicken.
  8. Serve hot with steamed rice and Pappads/ Appalam.


  • If you wish add a tsp of powdered jaggery once the curry thickens.
  • You can also add 15 chopped shallots if you wish.
