Spring Onion Stir Fry

                   Roughly chopped spring onions are finely sauteed along  with freshly pound coconut , fried gram masala.                                      


Spring Onions are widely used in chinese cuisine and I generally  use spring onion for garnishing my fried rice, noodles, wraps and so on, but I thought of preparing a simple saute kind of recipe which goes perfect with hot rice. This is a very easy stir fry that serves as a accompaniment with roti, bread.
To make use of abundance spring onions, this recipe is the best and tastes too good. Spring onions helps to speed up the level of blood circulation in the body. It is often used as a medicine for cold and helps in digestion. This is again a recipe from my MIL cooking which like a lot. Try this easy and quick stir fry at times when you find oodles of spring onions in market.

YIELD :2-3 servings


Spring Onions - 300 grams
Onion - 1 medium roughly chopped
Grated coconut - 2 tbsp
Dried red chilli - 4no.
Fried gram / Roasted Dhal/ Pootu kadahalai - 1 tbsp
Salt To Taste
Oil- 1 1/2 tbsp


  1. Wash and roughly chop spring onion. Keep spring onion white and green parts chopped seperately.
  2. Heat oil in a fry pan. Add one roughly chopped onion, spring onion white and saute till translucent.
  3. Meanwhile coarsely grind together Grated coconut, fried gram, red chilli with salt in a mixie.
  4. Once the onions till translucent add spring onion green and stir for  one minutes to cook. 
  5. Add the pound coconut mixture and stir fry for another 2 -3 minutes. Dish out.
  6. Serve with rice / roti as per your choice.


Do not cook both spring white and green together at a time as white part will take little long time to cook compare to green part, thats why I mentioned to add seperatedly.
To retain the crunchiness of the onions,do not cook this stir fry for longer time.
