Besan Nankhatai | Indian Gram Flour Eggless Cookies

Nankhatai are Indian version of eggless cookies. It can be made with plain flour, sooji or gram flour. I tried to make healthy cookies using gram flour, brown sugar and olive oil. It was as delicious as normal cookies. Here goes the recipe to make Healthy Nankhatai / Healthy Eggless Cookies.

Preparation & Cooking Time : 20 mins + 20 mins

Yield : 15 - 17 cookies


Besan/gram flour - 3/4 cup
Plain flour -1/4 cup
Powdered brown sugar- 1/4 cup (Substitute with white powdered sugar)
Cardamom powder a pinch
Baking soda - 1/4 tsp
Salt a pinch
Clarified Butter/Ghee - 1/3 cup ( substitute with room temperature butter)
Slivered pista to garnish


  1. Preheat oven at 170 C and prepare baking tray with parchment paper in it.
  2. In a large mixing bowl sieve together gram flour, plain flour, powdered sugar, baking soda.
  3. Add in salt and cardamom powder.
  4. Now add ghee and mix together well to make a dough.
  5. Make small balls of the dough about (Make around 15-17 nos). flatten them little with pressing them carefully.
  6. Sprinkle slivered pista in each cookies and arrange them in baking tray by keeping little distance to each other.
  7. Bake them at 170C for 20 minutes. check after 15 minutes as time varies in each oven.
  8. Once done take the tray out from oven let them cool down completely.
  9. Store in air tight container.


  • For healthier version I used half ghee and half olive oil. You can also use butter or vegetable ghee.
  • As I used brown sugar my cookies looks little brown in colour. But if you use white sugar it will give a nice bright colour to your cookies.
