Cucumber Lentil / Dosakaya Pappu

Cucumber Lentil / Dosakaya Pappu

YIELD –3 Servings


Cucumber-1 large
Thoor Dhal- 1/2 cup(soak in water for 15 minutes)
Onion-1 medium Roughly chopped
Tomato- 1 large Roughly chopped
Garlic- 2 flakes
Ginger- 1 tbsp chopped
Green Chilli-2 no.
Red Chilli Powder- 1/2 tsp
Turmeric Powder-1/4tsp
Asefatodia- 1tsp
Gingelly oil- 1tsp
Water-1 Cup
Sugar-1/2 tsp
Salt To Taste
Lemon Juice1 tbsp(optional)
Oil-1 tbsp


  1. Wash and peel the outer skin of cucumber, roughly chop.
  2. Combine Dhal, cucumber, onion, tomato, garlic, ginger, green chilli, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, water, gingelly oil and asefatodia  .
  3. Pressure cook for 3 sounds and tranfer to the cooking bowl.
  4. Add salt and sugar, cook for 5 minutes.
  5. Season it and squeeze a tbsp of lemon juice if you wish.
  6. Serve hot cucumber pappu/dhal with steamed rice.


For variation can also try cucumber with moong dhal.
